Inside or outside the recess?
Most bay shutters are fitted inside the window recess, so they sit neatly within the bay. Where the recess is shallow, or a window handle sticks out, the frame can be fitted on the face of the wall instead. We decide this at the measuring visit after checking the depth of each section.
What it looks like from the street
The last photo shows a bay with full height shutters from outside. Shutters give the front of a house a tidy, even look, because every pane is covered the same way.
