Why choose wooden shutters?

Wooden tier-on-tier shutters on a curved bay window with the top panels open for light, North London
Tier-on-tier shutters: top open for light, bottom closed for privacy.

Wooden shutters are one of the longest-lasting window coverings you can choose for your home. Unlike fabric blinds, they don’t fade, sag or need replacing every few years.

  • Control light and privacy. Tilt the louvres to let in as much or as little daylight as you want, room by room.
  • Keep your home warmer. When closed, wood shutters add a layer of insulation to your windows and help block draughts.
  • A quieter home. Wooden shutters help reduce road noise, which is ideal for street-facing rooms in North London.
  • Easy to clean. A quick wipe of the louvres is all they need.
  • A finished look. Shutters make a room feel brighter and more complete, and they suit both period and modern homes.

Made in Britain, built to last

Our fitter installing wooden shutters on a sash window in a North London home
Every set is fitted by our own team.

Our wooden shutters are made in Britain and listed in the Made in Britain directory. They are not shipped in from overseas. This is why we can offer a typical lead time of 3–4 weeks.

Each part of the shutter is joined mechanically, not with glue alone. This keeps the wood strong, and if a part is ever damaged, it can be taken apart and replaced without replacing the whole shutter.

Our shutters are made from Paulownia hardwood, a lightweight and stable timber. They’re finished with durable water-based paint, and your shutters travel straight from our North London warehouse to your home.

Wooden shutter styles

  • Full height shutters: our best seller. One panel covers the whole window, with louvres that tilt to control light.
  • Tier-on-tier shutters: separate upper and lower panels. Open the top for light and keep the bottom closed for privacy. Popular on street-facing bay windows.
  • Café style shutters: these cover the lower half of the window, for privacy at street level with plenty of daylight above.
  • Solid shutters: solid wood panels for a traditional look and maximum privacy. Ideal for bedrooms and period homes.
  • Special shape shutters: made for arched, circular, angled and other unusual windows.
  • Tracked shutters and bifold door shutters: for patio doors, French doors and wide openings onto the garden.

Colours and louvre sizes

Choose from our standard white and wood-stain finishes, or have your shutters colour matched to any shade from Farrow & Ball, Little Greene or Dulux. Terms and conditions apply.

Our most popular louvre size is 76mm. It’s wide enough to give a clear view out and leaves space to fit your hand between the louvres for cleaning. We also offer 64mm and 89mm louvres.

Wooden shutters FAQs

How much do wooden shutters cost?

The price depends on the size of your windows, the shutter style and the finish. We give you a fixed written quote at your free home visit, and our like-for-like price promise means you won’t overpay.

How long do wooden shutters take?

Our typical lead time is 3–4 weeks from order to fitting. Your written quote confirms the expected fitting date.

Are wooden shutters worth the money?

Yes. Wooden shutters last much longer than blinds or curtains. They also add insulation, give you better light and privacy control, and many homeowners find they add value to the home. That’s why we guarantee ours for 10 years.

Can wooden shutters go in a bathroom or kitchen?

Yes. With the louvres open, air circulates freely, so wooden shutters handle condensation well. For very wet rooms, ask us about our waterproof shutter options.

Do wooden shutters cause damp?

No. With the louvres open, air can still move around the room, which helps prevent damp.

What’s the difference between wooden shutters and shutter blinds?

They’re often the same thing. “Shutter blinds” is another name for interior shutters. Our wooden shutters are solid hinged panels with tilting louvres, fitted into your window frame and made to measure.
