How Much Do Bay Window Shutters Cost? Prices and Examples
Our made-to-measure wooden shutters start from £240/m², including our current 30% discount. A bay needs a measured quote because its separate sections, angles, frame arrangement and chosen finish affect the final price. A rate per square metre is a starting point for budgeting, not a fixed price for every bay.
How much do bay window shutters cost? Example prices
The examples below show what typical North London bays work out at using the same rates as our online price calculator. Prices include our current 30% discount. They are illustrations to help you budget, not quotes: your exact price is confirmed in writing after a free measured survey.
| Example bay | Approx. size | Example price £240/m², incl. 30% off |
|---|---|---|
| Small three-sided bay (e.g. terrace or cottage) | 2.0 m wide × 1.4 m high = 2.8 m² | £672 |
| Typical Victorian or Edwardian three-sided bay | 2.4 m wide × 1.8 m high = 4.32 m² | £1,037 |
| Large or tall bay (e.g. five-sided) | 3.2 m wide × 2.0 m high = 6.4 m² | £1,536 |
Width is the total of all the bay sections added together. To work out your own figure, multiply each section’s width by its height, add them up and multiply by £240 – or simply enter your measurements into our shutter price calculator.
Measure each bay section separately
For an early discussion, note the width and height of each glazed section and take a photograph showing the full bay, handles, sill and surrounding walls. Add the individual areas for a rough overview. Measuring only the straight distance across the room does not describe the angled sections.
Do not order shutters from rough measurements. At the home survey we check the angles, frame depth, opening clearances and any uneven surfaces before confirming the design. A curved bow and a three-sided bay may need different panel and frame arrangements.
What changes the quote?
- Size: more shutter area generally means more material and components.
- Shape: angles, curves and unusual openings affect the design and survey requirements.
- Panel layout: the number of panels and where they fold must work with the window.
- Style: full height, tier-on-tier and café designs provide different coverage and operation.
- Finish and details: the selected colour, louvres, controls and hardware should be specified in the quote.
- Fitting conditions: access, window handles, nearby furniture and the condition of fixing surfaces need checking.
Choose a style for the way you use the bay
Full height shutters cover the window in one set of panels and can include split louvre control. Tier-on-tier shutters allow the upper panels to open independently while the lower panels stay closed. Café shutters cover only the lower portion, leaving glass exposed above.
Ask for alternatives if you are balancing budget and privacy. Less coverage changes the result as well as the amount of shutter area, so compare what each design will do from inside and outside the room. Do not assume a standard percentage saving or surcharge for a particular style.
Compare like-for-like written quotes
Check that each quote covers the same openings, dimensions, material, finish, panel arrangement, fitting scope and guarantee. Ask for anything unclear to be itemised. A headline rate alone cannot establish which quote offers the right design or service.
If you are considering supply-only or self-fitting from another provider, check its measurement responsibility, fitting instructions and guarantee conditions. Bay angles can make an incorrect measurement costly. Our consultation is the place to discuss the scope of our own service.
Plan the budget without relying on promises
Start with the windows where privacy or light control matters most. Compare available finishes and layouts before placing an order, and ask for a revised quote if the specification changes. We do not build assumed finance offers, grants, energy savings or an increase in house value into the price.
Shutters and fabric blinds provide different appearances and ways to control light. If the budget does not suit the shutter design you want, ask to compare appropriate made-to-measure blinds using actual samples and quotes.
Lead time, guarantee and care
Our wooden shutters have a 10-year guarantee. Our UK-made range has a typical 3–4-week lead time, and our standard range around 6–8 weeks. Your order confirms the expected fitting date and the guarantee terms. Dust regularly and follow the supplied care instructions to protect the chosen finish.
Common questions
How much are shutters for a bay window?
Using our published rates, most North London bays work out between roughly £670 and £1,540, depending on size – a typical three-sided Victorian bay is around £1,040. These prices include our current 30% discount. See the example table above, or use our price calculator. Your exact price is confirmed after a free measured survey.
Are all bay windows priced the same way?
No. Area is one factor, but shape, panel arrangement, finish and fitting conditions also matter. A home survey is needed for an accurate quote.
Can I get an estimate from photos?
Photos and approximate dimensions can help the initial conversation. They do not replace the final survey or written quote.
Can shutters make a bedroom completely dark?
Closed shutters reduce light, but gaps can remain. Discuss room-darkening requirements and any existing curtains before choosing the design. For a properly dark room, ask about a blackout blind fitted discreetly behind your shutters – one of our specialities.
